WGA In-Person Luncheon ~ Austin Burgess, Central Wyoming Trails Alliance ~ Repair/Rebuild Cottonwood Creek Dino Trail at Lake AlcovaAustin Burgess with the Central Wyoming Trails Alliance is putting together plans for rebuilding and repairing the Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail out at Lake Alcova. He is interested in speaking and providing information about the project, and any input he might get from local geologists and paleontologists. Austin Burgess serves as the Executive Director of Central Wyoming Trails Alliance (CWTA), a Wyoming-based nonprofit dedicated to advocating, educating, and constructing non-motorized, multi-use trails in central Wyoming. With a lifelong passion for outdoor recreation since the mid-90s, Austin has been an active and influential force within CWTA since 2020, transitioning from board member to Executive Board member, and now Executive Director.
Austin is deeply committed to fostering collaboration and community partnerships, exemplified by his role as a steering committee member for the Natrona Converse Outdoor Recreation Collaborative—a state-led initiative to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities across Wyoming. He also brings 24 years of experience in the public safety industry, where he excelled in instruction and leadership roles.
Under Austin’s leadership, CWTA has embarked on numerous impactful projects, including the expansion of the Casper Mountain trail system, the development of the Cedar Draw Bike Park, and the implementation of the Douglas Mountain trail system. The organization also oversees trail maintenance initiatives across Natrona and Converse counties. One of CWTA’s most exciting undertakings is the restoration of the Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail in partnership with the Natrona County Parks Department—a project aimed at breathing new life into this aging yet cherished trail.
With a mission to enhance outdoor recreation and strengthen community ties, Austin continues to lead CWTA in creating accessible, sustainable trails that inspire adventure and connection for generations to come.
